Announcement - UNM IT (PAIS Network)
June 26, 2026 - UNM IT
What is happening: We are replacing the aging distribution routers that serve the PAIS network zone and cutting those buildings over to new fiber circuits. This is part of our ongoing distribution-layer refresh. The new routers have already been configured, installed, powered, and brought under remote management, and the new fiber circuits are pre-built, so the weekend work is the cutover itself rather than building from scratch. (ServiceNow change: CHG0036085.)
When: Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2, 2026, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. We scheduled it on the weekend to keep impact to building occupants as low as possible.
Systems impacted: buildings/occupants served by the PAIS distribution zone, affects wired and wireless network in those areas.
Is there an outage / what is the impact: Yes. During the cutover, network connectivity (wired and wireless) and anything depending on it in the affected zone will be down while each router and fiber path is moved.
How long: outages are intermittent across the window, with any single site down roughly a couple hours during its cutover rather than the full two days.
Readiness / risk: Because the routers and fiber are pre-staged, we have a fallback if needed. I also took this to Admin Ops and no one voiced concerns.
