Brief Biography

Samir Giri is a senior Mechanical Engineering student at the University of New Mexico with a minor in Computer Science, who joined the Office of the Vice President for Research IT as an Advanced-Level Technical Support Assistant in January 2025. In this role, he provides technical support to research centers across campus by diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and operating system issues, helping ensure that research activities run smoothly and securely.

Through his work, Samir is involved in supporting and improving technical systems used by researchers, including troubleshooting system-level problems across all Support Tiers, assisting with secure and user-friendly solutions, and applying data-driven approaches to improve system performance and workflows. His position allows him to combine hands-on technical skills with analytical thinking and clear communication, especially when working with researchers from diverse academic backgrounds.

Samir’s academic and professional experiences reflect a strong interest in the intersection of engineering, computing, and applied problem-solving. He is motivated to continue developing his skills in system optimization, data analysis, and technical support while gaining deeper exposure to research-focused environments. Outside of work and academics, he enjoys hiking, listening to music, cooking, and spending time on hands-on engineering and technology projects.
